The Graduate School of Law at Hokkaido University has been working on a collaborative research project called gComparative Research into Changes in Governance in an Age of Globalizationh funded by a Creative Scientific Research Grant. This research aims to pursue how democracy and a large variety of policies have changed in globalization.
An important aspect among the research interests is an examination of the concept of social governance. At the present time when the welfare states which have developed to pursue equality and full employment since the World War II are compelled to change by globalization, how to realize a community as an idea and social justice in such globalization is questioned. eSocial governancef means new types of government and models of civil society that realize such values. The aim of this symposium is, through comparisons on different challenges which Europe, America and Asia tackle, to explore possibilities of social governance.
The first part of this forum is held at Waseda University in Tokyo and the second part at Hokkaido University in Sapporo, however, in cooperation with Institute of International Welfare, Economic Policy Institute for Quality Life, and Freidrich Ebert Stiftung.
